So the last couple of weekends have been New Zealand historic racing's annual big event, the NZFMR meet at Hampton Downs. What makes it a big (i.e. crowd-pleasing) event is that there's a bunch of stuff other than pure racing, each year based on a different theme (so far always a marque or driver). This year the theme was Ferrari. So of course they had a bunch. Here's some pics. There'll be another photo dump of everything non-Ferrari later.
Lets start with the best thing there (sorry, I'm a child of the 80s - cope!). The 288GTO:
Yes, there's some other cool stuff behind it, more of that later. But face it, it's not a 288GTO. This was my poster car as a teenager and it's the first time I've seen one in the flesh. Squeee!!!

Second coolest thing there (of the road cars at least): 250GTO. This one started life as a 250GTE and was converted to GTO spec by Ferrari.
Interior shot. Crackle finish. Gated shift. Yum.

Obligatory F40 and Enzo (there's an F50 somewhere, too: didn't get a photo)
The "not quite cool enough to be inside with the A-Listers" crowd:
...and the plebs. Lots of plebs. It's a sad, sad day when a 246 Dino is a pleb, but there you go.
Magnum would have been in heaven.
There is at least one classic Ferrari in NZ that gets raced in anger routinely: I've seen this guy around before. It's not the most beautiful Fezza in the world, but it does "purposeful" pretty effectively. And it's fast.
There were also some F1 cars - a couple of Turbo-era 156/85s...
...and a 412T1B offering V12 engine porn.
Here's one of the 156/85s racing in the Formula 5000 race. To give some perspective to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! : the Ferrari didn't win. Admittedly it was probably running in demo-spec rather than race-spec, but nonetheless, keeping up with one of these puppies is not bad for a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! formula.

I've posted this before, but here's a short clip of the F1 cars on a demo run. Turn the speakers right up - the 412 has a rep as the best sounding F1 car ever, and I can see why. It's spine-chilling.
And to close, here's every man, his dog, and his brother lapping at lunchtime. Apparently they got 140 Ferraris on track on the first day ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! some slightly more professional footage of that). the day I went it wasn't that many, but it's still a metric shitload of Ferrari.

I have a feeling that the F40 was the one that was just recently up for sale by Continental Cars. But recently, I mean a year or two ago...
Man, you're lucky to see the complete set. Didn't even realise there were so many classic Ferraris in NZ. The only pre-360 Ferrari I've ever seen on the streets was a Pale Blue Dino (if you can count that as a Ferrari!) somewhere between New Plymouth and Auckland.

There's a few fairly serious private car collections around, they just don't make a big show of it. There is (or was) at least one Mclaren F1 here, and according to the Ferrari owners club, someone local's ordered a LaFerrari - looking forward to seeing that one in action sometime.
Having said that, I don't know if all these are NZ cars. The F1s certainly aren't, and maybe a few of the others came in for the event. If you can afford a classic Ferrari a few tens of thousands in airfreight isn't going to bother you....
